Camino journey update, 11th June

The finish line is almost in sight!

Since setting off from Porto, Anne has now walked an incredible 236 kilometres, passing through and staying in some of the 86 villages and towns along the Camino Portugués route.

There have been a few challenges along the way, including one blister, sore feet, and aching shoulders, but Anne is doing remarkably well and is now just 20 kilometres from Santiago de Compostela.

Favourite walks: 

  • The stunning North Atlantic coastline, especially on windy days when the waves and sea swells were at their most spectacular.

  • The beautiful forests and vineyards of Galicia in northern Spain.

Favourite foods:

  • Fresh salads

  • Patatas Bravas

  • Pimientos de Padrón

  • Santiago Cake (gluten-free and absolutely delicious!)

Some of the most meaningful moments have been the simple ones:

  • Finding her way through villages and cities without getting lost

  • Finding accommodation at the end of each day

  • Taking off boots and socks after a long day’s walk

  • Waking up ready to walk again

  • Enjoying both the sunshine and the shade

  • Peaceful moments walking alone

  • The laughter, stories, and companionship of fellow pilgrims

Perhaps the greatest gift of the Camino has been the people. Along the route, Anne has met walkers from all over the world and made friendships that she believes will last a lifetime.

With Santiago now within reach, Anne will continue onwards to Finisterre, the historic “End of the Earth”.

Camino update, 2nd June

Anne’s Camino adventure is now underway.

After setting off on the Camino Portugués Coastal Route, Anne has been enjoying the first weekend of summer, with the morning mist giving way to beautiful sunshine.

Over the weekend, she walked along the stunning coastline north from Vila do Conde towards Apúlia, taking time to pace herself and prepare for the days ahead.

With temperatures around 23°C, plenty of sunscreen, a hat, and breathtaking Atlantic views, spirits are high. Anne is aiming to reach Santiago de Compostela by mid-June.

Every step brings her closer to Santiago and ultimately Finisterre, the historic “End of the Earth”.
